Escuela del Sol and the Harwood Art Center are collaborating with support from Studio Teachers to create a Community Altar Project to be installed on The Roving Table, located outdoors on Harwood’s front yard!
Inspired by the ofrendas and traditions of Día de los Muertos, we are joining together to create a community altar on the large table in front of Harwood. Students, families, and community members are invited to create portraits of loved ones (be they family, ancestor, historical figure, or mourned modern-day hero) who have passed for the altar.
Elementary and Junior High students will work with Studio Teachers, learning about traditional arts associated with Día de los Muertos and developing portrait drawing skills. They will create original artworks and decorations for the altar. This project will be up starting on Friday, October 30.
You are invited to create drawings, paintings, collages, or other artistic renderings honoring and remembering loved ones that will be installed alongside the students’ work.
Please digitally submit your work no later than Friday, October 23.
