Book Club is a much-loved tradition at Escuela del Sol. Every summer Classroom Guides craft a special list of books that cover a variety of genres and topics appropriate for this age group. This is a form of “homework” we assign to families on a monthly basis.
Choose one or both books per month to read at home. Students are not expected to read the books on their own, unless they choose to. Book Club is more about developing an appreciation for literature. Students may read to themselves or aloud to a sibling, friend, or parent. Students also benefit from listening to a parent read. You may choose to listen to an audio book together while you paint or knit, or on a longer drive. There are so many ways to read! And all of them bring different opportunities and value.
We will have a Book Club meeting during the last week of each month. The meetings are intended to be celebratory — a celebration of the book we read. This includes a discussion about the book, activities pertinent to the storyline and snacks.
We encourage families to find books at the library or order them from Bookworks or another favorite independent book store. Our partnership with Bookworks makes getting your books a breeze while supporting a beloved local independent bookstore. We also love getting audiobooks from the library – Hoopla and Libby are handy apps that give you easy access to books you can listen to and enjoy as a family.
