Hard work is child’s play

It’s Cold Out, Help Your Kids Stay Warm

by | Sep 9, 2020 | Arts & Culture

Just when we thought summer would never end, fall decided to check in this week, making sure to keep us on our toes!

Because the tents are down due to high winds and it is just COLD, none of the classes were able to spend very much time outside today. The Elementary classes had snack and lunch in the dining hall — sooo much space. It presented good practice for upcoming cold and windy days.

This cold snap was good preparation for the fall and winter months ahead, and the critical need for good clothing and preparation. Not everyone came to school today with coats, hats or gloves so we couldn’t ask the kids to be outside for long stretches. If we’re going to make this maximizing time outside work – and we REALLY want to make it work, we need help from parents!

Here are a few ideas:

  • Involve the children in preparations for the day. Check the weather the evening before and discuss how you might prepare, and then check the weather together in the morning before getting dressed and deciding what shoes to wear and which coat to bring.
  • Label all coats, hats, and gloves. This will help us ensure that items stay with your children and eventually make their way home.
  • Make sure that children have masks that are as comfortable as possible that fit well.  A good-fitting mask can actually be nice and cozy on a cold day, and it’s most effective.
