Dear Families of Escuela del Sol,
I’m sure many of you listened in or heard about our Governor’s press conference yesterday, Nov. 13. The spike in Covid cases is not unexpected, unfortunately. As for the Escuela response, let me reiterate our unwavering commitment to maintaining the health and safety of our community while staying open to serve our students and their families.
To date, our Escuela Quaranteam is doing extremely well. Indications are that you have all been pulling together, as one big school family, to keep our community safe. We are all grateful for your efforts and dedication to this cause. The school is able to remain open as long as we all keep up the good work of diligent attention to Covid mitigation practices: unwavering mask-wearing, frequent hand washing, and staying home whenever possible.
We do want to remind you of a few key practices that need your complete attention:
- Work with your children to make mask-wearing an every-day “new normal.”
- Make sure they have masks that fit well. Our teachers have noticed that some of our students have masks that are too large or too small. A good fit makes a mask more comfortable and easier to keep on all day. Please review the CDC’s guidelines for proper mask fit and materials.
- In the Early Childhood classrooms especially, we notice a need for more extra masks for the kids to use throughout the day. Please send your children with plenty of masks!
- If your children have any symptoms of illness, you must keep them home.
- After an illness, no one (students, teachers, staff) can return to the campus without first giving the school a written “all clear” from a medical professional. No matter what the symptoms were, no one can come back without that note. The school’s fax # is 800-317-4752. The email is: office@edelsol.org
Please adhere carefully to all of Escuela’s Covid procedures. We will send out an abbreviated version to you soon to refresh memories and provide clarification.
Lastly: if you do decide to keep your child home this coming week or until after the Thanksgiving break, please let us know immediately. In order to plan adequately how best to serve all our students and families, we need this information. We need to know how many students we can expect for lesson planning, lunch preparation, etc., and how many will not be on campus during this time. Please email me (Friedje@eDelSol.org) and/or the office (office@eDelSol.org) if you anticipate keeping your child home as a response to the Governor’s request (or for any other reason).
With appreciation for your efforts,
Friedje vanGils
Head of School
