Usually, by now we would be preparing for our annual Autumn Festival, and looking forward to wearing costumes and playing games on the Wells Park field, which this year we are unable to do. Instead, we are inviting and encouraging children to wear a costume to school on Friday, October 30th (Tuesday, October 27th for Group A in Sr. El). Each classroom will have a small celebration to make the day special. We will provide treats and a little surprise at the end of the day.
Please make sure the costume your child wears avoids violent themes and is not too scary (no weapons, zombies, or characters from scary movies). Costumes should be appropriate for a community that includes Toddlers. It should allow your child to function at school – play at recess, use the restroom… If the costume has small accessories (wand, bracelet, etc.), we encourage those items to be left at home to avoid breakage or loss.
We also want to emphasize that any costume chosen be culturally sensitive. Please take some time to check out this article about cultural appropriation in Halloween costumes and click below to watch a wonderful video made by our Jr High students, which provides many wonderful, and appropriate, costumes ideas.
