The CEI Lab at Escuela Del Sol
Escuela Del Sol offers a multi-sensory reading and learning program that addresses the needs of struggling and emergent readers through our CEI Lab. We will be offering two sessions of this supplementary program each day - one during school and one after school. This program is offered at a fee, with a discount to Escuela families.
The CEI Lab uses a software based program, but a core component of the Lab is the high level of interaction between the instructor and the student - not just the student and the computer. We directly teach those critical skills required for successful readers: phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary knowledge, and comprehension.
We also address the need of struggling students to become better learners overall. We do this through a multi-sensory, therapeutic approach that works to rewire and create connections in the brain to enable learners to better acquire information, hold it in short-term memory and then move it to long-term memory where it is available for later use. This approach helps the students not only be better readers, but learn more effectively in general.
How does the CEI Lab fit in with a Montessori Education?
Both the Montessori approach and the CEI Lab program rely on a set of key philosophical principles:
repetition leading to mastery
addressing the needs of children with different learning styles
utilizing multi-age learning environments
using a work center classroom environment
building a foundation and then expanding beyond the basic lesson once mastery is achieved
a multi-sensory approach to memory and learning
