During the school year, Escuela offers several optional afterschool activities for our Junior and Senior Elementary students. Fees are charged per activity, please see registration flyers for details.
We start the year with two wonderful offerings: ReciclArte and Chess Club
This is a fabulous 6-week puppet-making class that will be conducted mostly in Spanish (Non-Spanish speaking students are welcome; this is an opportunity to learn or expand your Spanish language skills). Students will first construct a puppet friend from recycled materials, then create scenery for a play. Their effort and creativity culminates with a spectacular performance - all while expanding and practicing Spanish vocabulary!
The instructor is artist and educator Penelope Cuyar. Ms. Cuyar is a bilingual English-Spanish art teacher. A native of Puerto Rico, Ms. Cuyar has also taught in Spain and the United States. Ms. Cuyar holds degrees in Art & Design, Contemporary Procedures of Art as well as Pedagogical Adaptation. She has over ten years experience implementing art and education in an early childhood setting
Chess Club will continue with Mr. Silas Perry, who has been Escuela's Chess Coach for 5 years. Chess Club will meet on Tuesdays from 3:20 - 4:20, starting August 31st in the Harwood Dining Hall.
Registration forms for both are available here:
