Escuela del Sol was founded by a group of parents in 1968. The strong sense of community formed then persists today. We are a nonprofit, 501(c)(3) corporation governed by a Board of Trustees consisting of parents, members of the community at large, and staff representatives. Together with our art center, the school has a wonderful reputation for excellence, inclusion, and diversity. Through our outreach programs and service learning, and with the support and participation of school parents, Escuela del Sol is active in the community and partners with organizations such as Health Care for the Homeless and Wild Earth Guardians.
“Sol Sisters” are a group of moms who support the school in a variety of ways, from teacher-appreciation activities (food!) to fundraisers. Their counterpart, the “Sol Mates,” gives fathers and other male friends the chance to see if they can better their spouses …. bigger, better fundraisers, more work, more help …. Who knows, with the sisters and their mates supporting school initiatives, the world is our oyster!
Our faculty, staff, and members of the community offer workshops throughout the year to support an understanding of Escuela’s curriculum and approach - check out potential offerings on the Workshops webpage or look for specific topics and dates on our School Calendar.
Parent involvement in our school is key to our success!
