2013 SUMMER PROGRAMS
The arts have long been a vehicle for creative expression, bringing joy and a deeper level of understanding and connection in so many ways. Opportunity for artistic experiences in a variety of mediums will be available again this summer for young children as well as for elementary and middle school students. Thanks to the long-standing Harwood Summer Art Camp, our community has developed relationships with Albuquerque's finest art educators. PRIMARY ART CAMP: The structure of the art camp for children younger than elementary school age has some features that differ from our school-year Montessori programming. Notably, in order for the 45-minute art classes to provide the optimum experience, campers will be divided into two groups by age / developmental level, to ensure classes meet all our young friends' needs. Classes in the Primary Art Camp will include theater, visual arts and music. Two morning classes are offered for everyone, one afternoon class for the older (five year old) campers. All campers have counselors who stay with them during their various activities throughout the day and are there for them during before-care, after-care and lunch. All counselors are experienced Escuela staff. The art teachers are accomplished artists and performers who have experience working with children.

PLEASE NOTE: Enrollment is limited to children who are currently in one of Escuela's Primary classrooms, with the exception that all students who will enter the elementary school in August may enroll in The Harwood Summer Art Camp for elementary students - not in the Primary camp. Young three-year olds currently in Escuela's Toddler program will also not find the Primary art camp suited to their needs, but will have a wonderful summer in the Toddler community.
