Our exciting after school program offers a variety of creative and inspiring classes for Escuela elementary and primary students. From Ceramics to Theater, to Fuzzy Mayhem, and more—the choices are amazing. Each semester is split into 2 sessions offering different classes. The classes change each semester. You can see the current schedule below and enroll online.

PRIMARY CLASSES: Session 1
January 15 - March 7

TUESDAYS

Primary Open Jam (Music)
Students will play imaginative games involving music. Each week students will explore how sounds make up the world around them and add color to stories and life.

PRIMARY CLASSES: Session 2
March 19 - May 9

TUESDAYS

Primary Making Theater
In this class, students will explore communicating ideas through their bodies and voices. Students will play engaging games to help them master early expression techniques that build toward a solid acting foundation. Students will be encouraged to explore their own creative inspirations in a collaborative, cooperative environment. New and returning students alike will love this class!

Sculpture – Build It!
Young artists will explore three dimensional works as they create their own unique sculptures using air dry clay, wire, paper, fabric and more!

ELEMENTARY CLASSES: Session 1

CLASS FULL (no further registrations possible, sorry!) - Art Machines and Creative Inventions
Students will explore simple and compound machines and create their own inventive artworks that move, pull, lift and more! Join teaching artist Spring Griffin in this wonderful exploration of art, math, science and engineering.

Chess Club
Chess is fun and accessible, and it has been shown to greatly benefit a child’s development – most notably in problem solving, creativity, and sportsmanship.  Participants in this class will learn to play chess and have the opportunity to hone their skills during class time, as well as participate in up to three chess tournaments over the course of the semester.

WEDNESDAYS

Circus Yoga
Artfully designed to engage all ages, Circus Yoga blends the consciousness of yoga with the communal celebration of circus. This class fosters connection, communication and play through mandala and partner yoga, group games and invention, flying yoga,  circus skills, clowning and physical comedy, creative movement and dance. Explore the human art of play!

Students will follow simple recipes and create some of their own.  Learn about the science, art and math of cooking, measuring and creating edible works of art!

TUESDAYS

CLASS FULL (no further registrations possible, sorry!) Amazing Photography - Painting with Light!
Light is the source and science that makes photography. We will compose, change and then capture light to produce images and artwork.  This course will touch on the history of photography and lead us into the digital world. This class begins with camera basics and advances through digital capture and printing to ultimately produce each student’s very own mini photo book and collage.

Art Through the Ages
Children will examine the works of many different artists, then we’ll experiment with techniques and materials to create unique and amazing works. From Michelangelo to Klee, Da Vinci to Kahlo, Van Gogh to Faith Ringold, Kandinsky to Calder, and Picasso to O’Keeffe we will explore the worlds of artists and art making across generations.

Elementary Making Film
Students will explore elementary elements of film making. Students will spend each week brainstorming movie plots, learning how to use a simple camera and tell stories through images. The class will end in a screening of the students’ work.  Space in this class is very limited!
